The transit hub of the city. Much nicer then Penn Station. There are several upscale eateries located in Grand Central. Metrazur, Michael Jordan's and Cipriani can all be found in the main concourse while the Campbell Apartment is situated upstairs and must be accessed via a separate entrance on the Vanderbilt side of the terminal. Downstairs is a more relaxed dining concourse. Think food court; inexpensive food with lots of variety to chose from.
The Green 4 5 6 subway line is available inside the terminal as well as the shuttle to the Port Authority. The shuttle will save you a bit of a walk to Times Square from here. Shuttles come and go every few minutes from both locations.
Helpful Hint:
Looking for some German sausage? How about a bit of imported French cheese? Check out Grand Central Market for a wide selection of imported foodstuffs.
Free Entertainment Tip:
Buskers (street performers, musicians and artists) often perform in Grand Central and can usually be found on the main subway levels as well as on the vestibule of the Shuttle platform.
These performances are usually of very high caliber and can be enjoyed for free or a small donation to the artist.
